Mr Wei Yuk says that he has heard com-

-plaints of wantan of civility to District Watchmen by the

Police. He instanced treatment at drill received by the District

Watchmen. Mr. Badeley said that the Police were only too glad

to get infomation from the District Watchmen or from any one

else. He was not aware of any jealousy between the members of the

two Forces. The District Watchmen were not treated differently

at drill to what the Folice were.

tr. Lau Chu-pak said that recently a Chinese

Detective went to arrest two men concerned in kidnapping a boy.

He went to the flat where one of them lived and called put

The Officer Administering the Government

said that apart from the information now given by the gentlemen

present the Government were well aware of the prevalence of

crime and it was only a month ago that he had consulted with the Captain Superintendentor Police and Registrar-Cœneral as to what stops should be taken to stop the prevalence of crime.

The Detective Staff in Yamati had been strengthened and other

measures had been taken. He was now anxious to hear what

suggestions the District Watchmen Committee had to offer.

Mr. Hoi-chau suggested that sections

9 and 10 of Ordinance No. 3 of 1888 should be strictly enforced. These sections provide that every registered householder should

notify
